The commonly used grams of coated paper is 105g, 157g, 200g, 250g, 300g, 400g and 450g. Usually the specifications of coated paper on marketing are 889mm×1194mm and 787mm×1092mm. The ration of coated paper is 70-150g/m2 in general, while two-side coated paper (C2S) is 180-250g/m2. Coated paper is presented in several different forms: single-sided coated paper, double-sided coated paper, matt coated paper and texture coated paper.


It’s classified to grade A, B and C as per quality. The paper is even & tight, and whiteness is more than 85%. The paper surface is smooth and glossy, coating is firm, which is convenient to display the elegant and clear patterns and words after printing.


 


The merits of coated paper


Coated paper is one kind of printing paper made with coating on substrate, mainly used as cover of high-end books and periodicals, colorful cards, advertising leaflets, sample books, commercial packaging and labels.

 

Coated paper is the base paper with coating and decoration, surface is smooth. The coating can be on one side or two sides, and the surface can be matt or glossy. The commonly used coated paper is from 105-350gsm.


The requirements of coated paper are uniform thickness, small scalability, high strength and good water resistance. Paper surface is not allowed to have spots, wrinkles, holes and other paper disease.


The surface of coated paper is very clean with high smoothness and glossiness. Because the whiteness of coating is more than 90% and particles are very fine. After glazing calender, the smoothness is 600-1000s.


At the same time, the coating is evenly distributed on the paper, showing a pleasing white. For coated paper, it’s required to have high coating strength, thin and even coating, no bubbles. The adhesive dose in the coating is appropriate in case duslting and lint during printing. In addition, the absorption of xylene should be appropriate and should be suitable for fine mess printing with 60 lines/cm or more.

 



The application of different grams coated paper

 

1. The application of 105g and 128g coated paper

They are the lowest limit on gram weight of 4 color printing on two sides. Because it’s easy to be penetrative if the paper is too thin. They are applied on the inside pages of magazines and some other advertising materials.


2. The application of 157g coated paper

Coated paper is the most widely available gram weight in printing of ordinary single page currently. The material of most single leaflets and folding leaflets are 157g coated paper. It’s applied on single leaflets, folding leaflets, album and posters.


3. The application of 200g and 250g coated paper

The cost of 200g and 250g coated paper is higher than 157g ones, which are the first choice of most big companies pursuing high quality. They are mostly used in high quality leaflets, posters, catalogue cover, inner sheets, cards, packaging boxes, etc.


4. The application of 300g and 350g coated paper

The application of 300g and 350 coated paper is not so popular as the same gram weight white paper. It’s a little softer than white paper. Mostly used in brochure’s cover, inner sheets, cards, business cards, invitation cards, shopping bags, packaging boxes, etc.
